Diaper Rash

Urine and stool contain salts and acids that can irritate skin, especially in the diaper area. A common diaper rash is one in which the skin is intact but reddened like sunburn. When more severe, erosions or superficial ulcers may develop especially over the labia or buttocks. Rashes like this will clear with frequent changing and cleansing with mild soap and water. The use of barrier creams (Desitin, Vaseline or Balmex) will help protect against this type of rash.

Bright red and moist areas of eroded skin with small red dots around the edges characterize rashes due to yeast. These rashes require prescription medication. Call the office during normal office hours to inquire about a prescription.
